Maria Full of Grace
Venue: The Phoenix
Tonight was the last night they were showing Maria Full of Grace at the Phoenix.
Maria is a disillusioned girl from a small town in Columbia. Through a series of decisions she ends up as a drug mule headed for New York. The film shows her life in a matter of fact way, with no dramatic music or extreme photographic angles. Almost documentary like.
Catalina Sandino Moreno portrayed Maria wonderfully. I was a little surprised to find out that this was her acting debut. I'm sure much success is headed her way. Do not miss this film. The Phoenix is now my local cinema. Only about 5 minutes from my new flat, serving beer, selling Green & Black's, friendly staff, and showing excellent films. I'm very pleased and will likely be returning for the double bill matinee this Sunday: La Nina Santa and La Mala Educacion.

Thanks for the review. I've been trying to decide on seeing this film. I think I will.
I loved that film! One of the best last year. And it's so great that you have a good cinema nearby. I have a 40-minute drive to the nearest place I can see foreign and independent films. Sigh.
