Ruby on Rails 0.10

Ruby on Rails Logo

Ruby on Rails 0.10 has just been released.

New goodies include:

  • Routing will allow you to get URLs how you want, independent of say mod_rewrite.
  • Web services allow you to develop XML-RPC easily.
  • Components: With components it's possible to call other actions and controllers for their rendered response while executing another action.
  • Oracle support.

Ubuntu 4.10 Disks Arrived

My Ubuntu disks finally arrived this morning. Hurrah!

I have already off loaded one, and have almost found the rest homes too. If you fancy giving one of these a home, then mention it the next time I see you.

That Time of Year

Sureshot 6P and a LAF Yellow Band

Thanks to the girls and boys who came down after work to take me out for dinner. I had an excellent time.

I received a Lance Armstrong Foundation Yellow Band. I had not heard about these things, but apparently they are very popular in the US.

Thanks A for the Surefire 6P. I have been using it unnecessarily all day.

Thanks to everyone who remembered, despite me trying to keep it quiet.

Enforced Break

Showing how to set up keyboard break

I have discovered something quite cool on GNOME. You can set your system to make you take breaks.

To setup: Computer->Desktop Preferences->Keyboard->Typing Break

Although designed to combat RSI, this is also good for your eyes. It is a good reminder for those of you who get sucked in for hours at a time, to look outside, to get something to eat or drink, to go to the loo.

A little bar in your notifications panel will show the bar fill up over your set working period, then it will start flashing red when it's about to make you break.

There is an option to postpone your break, which can be useful if you're in the middle of something. Like writing this blog entry!

Note that this just xlocks. You can still switch to a TTY.
