Anatomy for Beginners
I watched the first of this four part series last night. This is defintely not for the squeamish. A real cadaver is being dissected on air in order for you to understand anatomy.
Last night they took off the skin and sliced up a brain to show you how the central nervous system worked. As the show was about movement, they also demonstrated how muscle groups work.
I think if I was still eating meat, I would have been put off watching this. Not that they intend to eat the body, but just seeing that meat is meat wherever it's from. Maybe people should see animals being butchered before they eat them.
The hairs on the back of my neck were standing up for much of the show. I sympathised with the reaction on the faces of the audience. Even so, I found it very interesting and informative. Definitely required viewing.
The rest of the shows are playing every night until Friday at 11pm on Channel 4.

I missed the first two but my daughter had seen them. I managed to see the third one. I found it very interesting and would love to see all of them and was wondering if they would be repeated at anytime or better still are they available for me to buy from anywhere. Please let me know as i am very interested. Thank You for the best program i have ever seen and best wishes in the future. Vicky.
Now that is a post that I understand. Wow! I'm jealous. I wish that we could get C4 over here. I love their site. My daughter (the eldest ) is fascinated with human physiology. We watch the Discovery Health Channel all the time, but an actual dissection is cool--at least you don't have to smell it!
Vikcy, I'm afraid I don't have any more details about this. I suspect they will release this on DVD eventually. I also expect them to rerun this on C4 or E4 in the not too distant future. Will let you know if I get any more info. Marie, I believe the bodies were treated and drained first, so maybe not so smelly. Sadly, I missed the chat last night online.
I get more than my fill watching CSI Miami, which if you haven't seen it it's a TV show here in the US (CSI = crime scene investigator - they also have CSI New York and CSI Special Victims Unit and who knows what else - CSI Traffic Cops?) where they use special effects to show very life-like animations of, say, bullets entering bodies, etc. By the way, the BBC Online has some cool stuff on human anatomy here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/
this is a very good programe and i cant wait for it to be legal
I was pretty suprised to see such a real "life" experiment being shown on TV. (It was filmed in Germany or Holland, I think. Due to the nature of the show, it's illegal to be produced in the UK. [I can't remember where I read this]) It is, however, presented in an very flowing, entertaining, *and* informative way. Having seen all four episodes, I can say I do know more about anatomy than I did. On a side note, I do eat meat and don't feel sick in my stomach. Just because you don't eat meat doesn't mean everyone needs to suffer by not eating meat or watching animals being slain. Just like the programme, it's not for the squeamish.
