Hippo in the Cistern
Not a real one obviously. Where would I find a Hippo?
This is a water saving device. Quite simple and effective. It saves you 3 litres of water every time you flush. Besides savings, I think this is a terrific environmental coup.
Mine is happily settling in. Soon I'll replace the cistern cover and let it get on with its job.

The Water company sent us one when we lived just down the road a couple of years ago except ours wasn't a hippo, it was just this inflatable balloon that went in the cistern. Yours sounds much more stylish. The other way of doing it is to adjust the thread on the handle bit inside that depends how far up the ballcock has to be for the valve to stop the water. If you can. Don't think there's as much control with that though.
