Moleskines

Moleskine sketchbook with Bone trading cards

I recently bought a Moleskine sketchbook as a present. It was so lovely, that I bought one too. It's not been touched yet, as I want to complete my drawing book first.

I have always decorated my notebooks with a Bone trading card. I haven't many left of shiny series 2, so I thought I'd move on to the Dragonslayer series.

I will be buying more of these notebooks for future trips, as they are just the right size for travelling.

I keep hearing about these lately. I'll have to check them out. I buy tons of these Mead Five-Star spiral-bound lined (9 1/2 X 6) notebooks for myself. They're cheap and I like the spiral binding so you're not dealing with cramped space near the binding.

Wow, I just noticed the cover of yours. Cool! I haven't thought of decorating my journals, but that sounds fun. Reminds me of my school days - we didn't purchase our textbooks, so we had to cover them and keep them clean to return at the end of the school year. Most of us used brown paper bags for the covers, then we'd spend the year doodling all over them.

Let me know how that book goes. I bought one on creativity and am trying to work my way through it.

I've cracked and started writing in it. Sadly, it doesn't take to my fountain pen very well. It may be because this is the sketch book version. I haven't actually chosen which trading card will go on the front of this one yet. I think trading cards are pretty much useless unless you display them.

Regarding comment #4 by jon, I agree. I have several Moleskines including a sketch book. I've been experimenting with a very cheap Parker fountain pen and noticed that it wrote horribly on the sketch book's paper. It writes beautifully on the standard Moleskine paper, however, its been a bit scratchy ever since my son used the Parker to draw in the sketch book.

I've tried out a few. It appears the thinner the nib, the better it performs. I like to use a Pelikan M30 with a broad nib. I have read that using a different ink may help. I'm using Parker Quink, and I'm unlikely to change. I resent having to find a pen or ink to use with a notebook.

i have just become aware of this fenon known as "MOLESKINE" and i went right out to purchase one but, alas my bookstore in this little town does'nt carry them. they did carry a reasonable replacement that looks remarkably like the real thing it even has the pocket in the back. anyone ever heard of "READABLES" journals. they don't have moleskin covers but they are linen. even has the fixed bookmark. john

Yeah, I have used "Readables" for quite some time. They are awesome. I get them at my local Books-A-Million in the pocket size. -maestro
