Ster Century Cinema Rip-Off

What do you go to a cinema for? Is it the overpriced food? Is it the rude hooligans? Is it the uncomfortable seat? Is it for the twat behind kicking your seat through the film?

No. I go to see a film on a big screen.

So, imagine my shock when they started playing Hellboy at a 4:3 aspect ratio in the cinema.

Yes.

I'm being serious. I have a feeling they just projected a DVD. Why? Because:

  1. I saw no certificate by the BBFC prior to the film.
  2. A FACT announcement did come up, which usually does on DVDs, but this is the first time I remember seeing it at the cinema.

I wonder how Guillermo del Toro would feel if he knew his film was being shown like this.

It's sad that they think they can get away with this. I will be looking at reporting them for an investigation, but in the meantime I would recommend you avoid this chain of cinemas.

well first of all heres 1 point for you get your ratio's right cinemas dont show films in 4:3 i belive the ratio your thinking of is 1:1:85 and second of all that is the ratio in which hellboy was intended to be viewed in, its not up to the cinema what ratio they play a film in. if they play a film in the wrong ratio the image will be stretched. Cinemas usually projec the images in wide screen (1:1:85) or scope(1:2:35). and second point is that the cert is not allways sent with the film. and if its not with the cinema in time, well the film goes on and the cinema has done their part by selling and advertising hellboy (wich was a 12A by the way) as a 12A film. Projected by DVD? Ster century use 35mm Projectors with a lamp between 3000w and 7000w (in the biggest screens) it is not possible to play DVD's in thease projectors. I Think you should avoid going to any cinemas until you understand the differance between cinema projection and TV Viewing. try here for a start http://www.film-tech.com
